Kevin Lidlow: Final 53 Man Roster Prediction

The final cuts are just a couple weeks away and after the first preseason game for gang green, there are some who are a clear cut to make the roster and some who are a clear longshot. Thankfully enough there is still time to prove to the coaches as to why they should be on this team, but from here on out they have to buckle down and show out. With all of that being said, here is the list of guys who I think will make the final 53 roster as well as the Practice squad.

Quarterbacks:

  1. Aaron Rodgers

  2. Zach Wilson

  3. Tim Boyle

I believe that this is a no-brainer here with Rodgers being the clear starter for this team as long as he still plays. As for the 2nd and 3rd string, they could swing this either way but having Wilson being the backup makes too much sense. Plus he has been outperforming Boyle

Running Backs:

  1. Breece Hall

  2. Michael Carter

  3. Zonovan Knight

  4. Israel Abanikanda

This again seems like a no-brainer as well. Of course it could change if the Jets land Dalvin Cook, in which I can see Bam being the cap casualty or at least earning the practice squad.

Wide Receiver:

  1. Garrett Wilson

  2. Allen Lazard

  3. Mecole Hardman

  4. Corey Davis

  5. Randall Cobb

  6. Malik Taylor

This is probably the toughest out of the cuts just because everyone has been making a strong case as to why they should make the roster. But outside of the obvious ones, I think both Taylor and Brownlee have been making the most noise at camp. Therefore making the 53 roster.

Tight end:

  1. Tyler Conklin

  2. CJ Uzomah

  3. Jeremy Ruckert

There isn’t much competition here other than maybe the third tight end spot between Ruckert and rookie Zack Kuntz. I think Ruckert ends up winning and Kuntz earns a spot on the practice squad.

Offensive Tackle:

  1. Mekhi Becton

  2. Max Mitchell

  3. Duane Brown

  4. Billy Turner

With the amount of injuries on the offensive line last year, I see the Jets being extra cautious and keeping more tackles on the active roster

Guards:

  1. Laken Tomlinson

  2. Alijah Vera-Tucker

  3. Wes Schweitzer

The Jets love an offensive lineman who is very versatile and can play multiple positions, which is why I think they keep Schweitzer

Center:

  1. Connor McGovern

  2. Joe Tippmann

This goes without saying, Mcgovern will serve as the Jets starting center and Tippmann will be the future for this franchise.

Defense:

Defensive Line:

  1. Carl Lawson

  2. Quinnen Williams

  3. Al Woods

  4. John Franklin-Myers

  5. Jermaine Johnson

  6. Will McDonald

  7. Michael Clemons

  8. Bryce Huff

  9. Quinton Jefferson

  10. Solomon Thomas

This defensive line is deep and full of potential to be the best in the league.

Linebackers:

  1. Quincy Williams

  2. CJ Mosley

  3. Jamien Sherwood

  4. Zaire Barnes

Maybe the biggest concern besides the offensive line, but I think this unit can surprise us especially with Sherwood and Barnes. You can make the argument for Surrat too, but I think Barnes makes the 53.

Cornerbacks:

  1. Sauce Gardner

  2. DJ Reed

  3. Michael Carter

  4. Jarrick Bernard-Converse

  5. Bryce Hall

Maybe one of the best units in the game now, but the depth does worry me if someone gets hurt. Bryce Hall only makes the team because Echols is suspended.

Safeties:

  1. Jordan Whitehead

  2. Adrian Amos

  3. Tony Adams

  4. Ashtyn Davis

Ashytn Davis is the only one I have concerns but otherwise I think Tony Adams will take a big step this year.

Special Teams

  1. Thomas Morstead (P)

  2. Greg Zuerlein (K)

  3. Thomas Hennessy (LS)

  4. Justin Hardee (ST)
