After an impressive Monday night game against the Lions where all three sides of the ball scored, the Jets will continue their three straight short weeks with the home opener against their AFC east rival Miami Dolphins. The Jets are hoping to carry monday’s victory into this week, while the Dolphins are looking to move to 2-0 against the AFC east rival. To get you prepared for the 1pm matchup here is what to expect from the Jets to come away with the win.
Defense has to start off strong: The Jets don’t have to worry about Jarvis Landry twice a year anymore but the Dolphins have found themselves another weapon who can stretch the field and that is Kenny Stills. Last week, Still caught 4 passes for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns as he beat Malcolm Butler on multiple occasions. Johnson will have his work cut out for him. The pass rush will have to put pressure on Tannehill and bring him down. Against the Lions, they didn’t record a single sack but they put a decent amount of pressure on Stafford.
Win the turnover and field position battle: Sam Darnold can’t throw a pick six again this time around, this time around he should be in front of a home crowd so he won’t have that much butterflies in his stomach. Last week he took advantage of the field position as he didn’t start the series in their own territory as much. Get your star players involved: For the time being it looks like the run game is improved after Crowell had a 100 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, while Enunwa was Darnold’s security blanket. This week the Jets should be getting back Kearse, which will help take some pressure off of Anderson so I’d expect the Jets to stretch the field more often this game. With the impressive win against the Detroit Lions and that they have their home opener, this is a team who should be coming out with a lot of confidence and ready to play. It will be interesting to see if this team can have an even better outing than last week (if it’s even possible).
