This week, the New York Jets will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars and head coach Doug Marone. The Jaguars (2-1) are coming off a very impressive victory over the Baltimore Ravens who we thought was a pretty solid team, a big part of that win was the run game in which they are the fifth ranked rushing team in the NFL led by rookie Leonard Fournette who is averaging about 6.5 yards per carry. Without a doubt the key to the Jaguars victory is sticking to the run game. Their run game has brought balance to this offense and it has taken the pressure off of Bortles, but the Jets are coming off an upset of their own as they beat their AFC east rival Miami Dolphins in which the defense only allowed 30 yards rushing, considering the defense has been awful the first two week that was definitely a confidence booster.
For the Jets, their key to victory is to rely on their run game. Although it has been dreadful this season, the Jaguars have allowed 133 yards rushing with a 4.3 yards per carry this season but their pass defense is ranked first in the league with 13 sacks and allowing 124 yards through the air. Josh McCown has been pretty accurate throwing the ball completing about 68.9 percent of his throws, but he might have a tough time against this Jaguars defense. I expect the Jets to throw some screens and quick passes to start the game just to keep the defense off balance. Last week, Baltimore gave Bortles a lot of time in the pocket as he threw for 4 TD’s but in the previous week the Titans pressured him all game long and he threw 2 int’s. If the Jets have any hope of winning this game, the defensive line needs to put pressure on Bortles and make him force throws.
