Eagles Defense Flies High

The Eagles shut out the Pittsburgh Steelers to win their second game of the preseason 17-0. Before the game even started, news headlines were flowing. Eagles Kicker Caleb Sturgis was ruled out with a concussion. His injury occurred when his was hit in the head by a punt. Only an Eagles player would get injured that way.

Let’s get talk about the actual game. For majority of the first quarter the Steelers saw most of the ball. However, they did not do anything with it. In fact, the game's first touchdown came towards the end of the one quarter when Eagles cornerback Nolan Carroll intercepted a pass thrown by Landry Jones. The pick six was a big statement by Carroll, he is here to start.

Sam Bradford and the first team offense played the whole first half. We saw a consistent Sam Bradford, but he did not take any risks. The only other points of the half was a 40-yard field goal by Eagles kicker Cody Parkey.

The big talk of the first half were the four interceptions the Eagles had. Including Carroll’s pick six the Eagles managed to intercept Jones three more times. Safety Malcolm Jenkins, Corner Aaron Grymes, and Safety Jaylen Watkins all had an interception. I might add, Grymes was one heck of a play.

Besides Kenjon Barner’s impressive showing in the third quarter, where he scored a 5-yard touchdown. The third quarter was marked by the Odell Beckham Jr. like catch made by undrafted free agent Paul Turner.

The Eagles next preseason game will be Saturday, August 27, when they take on the Indianapolis Colts.
